Meta brings Moltbook creators into the fold as part of an industry wide push towards agentic AI
Meta has acquired Moltbook – a viral social network platform designed for AI agents to interact with each other.
The move will see Moltbook creators Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr brought into Meta’s Superintelligence lab (MSL) to create “new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses”, the tech giant said.
Moltbook is described as a Reddit-like platform with AI agents and claims 1.5 million users, which are bots posting discussions on a number of topics – just like a traditional social network. However, humans are only ‘welcome to observe’.
“The Moltbook team joining MSL opens up new ways for AI agents to work for people and businesses,” a Meta spokesperson confirmed to Affiliate Leaders.
“Their approach to connecting agents through an always-on directory is a novel step in a rapidly developing space, and we look forward to working together to bring innovative, secure agentic experiences to everyone.”
The details of the deal have not been released. Affiliate Leaders also contacted Moltbook for comment, but at the time of publishing, is yet to receive a response.
The acquisition represents an industry wide push towards agentic AI. Moltbook was originally created to run alongside a separate personal AI assistant platform by a tool called OpenClaw, which was acquired by OpenAI in February 2026.
OpenClaw is an AI agentic tool that can help users users complete tasks on their devices. By linking it with Moltbook, users can also see how it interacts with other bots.
Following the acquisition, OpenAI hired OpenClaw creator, Peter Steinberger.
Steinberger came into OpenAI to help “drive the next generation of personal agents” Sam Altman revealed in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Peter Steinberger is joining OpenAI to drive the next generation of personal agents. He is a genius with a lot of amazing ideas about the future of very smart agents interacting with each other to do very useful things for people. We expect this will quickly become core to our…

“OpenClaw will live in a foundation as an open source project that OpenAI will continue to support. The future is going to be extremely multi-agent and it’s important to us to support open source as part of that.”
In an internal post, seen by Axios, Meta’s vice president of AI products, Vishal Shah confirmed that existing Moltbook customers will be able to continue using the platform, but that this may be a temporary arrangement.
