The FairPlay Sports Media company has tightened security measures in response and is urging users to do the same.
Oddschecker has confirmed it experienced a cybersecurity breach involving user data.
The company emailed users yesterday stating that their passwords, contact details and date of birth may have been accessed.
As a precautionary security measure, Oddscheck has asked all users to update their password via a verified link and recommended updating their passwords on other accounts if they use the same one.
The letter, seen by Affiliate Leaders, read: “As with all IT security incidents there is a possibility that the data involved could be misused, including the use of your contact details to send you phishing messages. However, we have not identified any evidence of this.”
A spokesperson for FairPlay Sports Media, said: “We recently identified, contained and resolved an IT security incident involving a limited part of our systems. This did not disrupt our usual services and we continue to operate as normal. We are liaising closely with our users, partners and the relevant authorities.”
Oddschecker is the affiliate marketing arm of FairPlay Sports Media, known for its odds comparison service in the UK.
The firm is urging users to protect themselves against scams by being cautious of unexpected emails, text or calls and not to click on any links unless they are sure of who the sender was.
“We thank you in advance for your support,” Oddschecker wrote to users. “Unfortunately, these types of incidents are increasingly common in today’s digital work and affect organisations in all sectors.
“We will learn from this experience and share any relevant lesions with our partners to ensure we all emerge from this stronger.”
