The image-sharing platform will be launching the partnership programme in Indonesia and Brazil after research showed a growing user-base in those markets.
Pinterest and Shopee have teamed up to bring a new affiliate partnership programme in Indonesia and Brazil.
The partnership will enable eligible creators to connect their Shopee affiliate with their Pinterest one and share product recommendations via pins and videos.
Once their accounts are connected, creators will be able to discover and select affiliate products on Shopee to recommend within Pinterest; tag multiple products in a single pin or video; and apply for relevant affiliate links to be automatically added to products.
Creators will earn commissions when a Pinterest user makes an eligible purchase of any of the tagged products on Shopee, subject to the programme terms.
The launch marks Pinterest’s entry into affiliate commerce in Indonesia and expands its creator-affiliate programme in Brazil.
Shopee’s existing affiliate programme will be connected with Pinterest’s visual discovery experience, to bring products into another setting where people explore what to buy.
As part of the partnership programme, this offers creators another way to reach audiences and potentially earn commission through trackable, affiliate links. While for shoppers, it aims to make the journey from interest to purchase more seamless across the platforms.
Peggy Zhu, executive director, brand and growth marketing, Shopee, said: “Commerce does not begin only at the point of purchase. It starts when people discover an idea, explore their options, and decide what fits their needs.
“At Shopee, we see creator-commerce as part of this broader journey, connecting creators and businesses with shoppers through content and technology. Our work with Pinterest reflects this approach by linking visual discovery with Shopee’s commerce ecosystem.”
The visual search experience
Users often use Pinterest as a starting point for ideas – whether that’s an outfit for a special occasion or decorating your home.
Gen Z, one of the largest and fastest-growing audiences on the platform, accounts for more than 50% of Pinterest’s global user base.
Pinterest search data revealed there is a growing gen Z user-base in Indonesia and Brazil within fashion and beauty. Searches for ‘inspiração de look’ (meaning outfit inspiration) rose by 281% year-on-year in Brazil; while in Indonesia, there was an 83% spike in searches for ‘produk kecantikan’ (meaning beauty products).
The data provides the context for Pinterest’s collaboration with Shopee to launch an affiliate programme in these markets.
Ayumi Nakajima, senior director, content partnerships, Asia-Pacific at Pinterest, said: “People come to Pinterest with intent. Whether they’re updating their wardrobe, refreshing their home or looking for a new beauty product, they’re actively exploring what to buy next.
“Creators help guide those decisions through recommendations people trust, Pinterest truly sits at the heart of creator commerce where inspiration can lead to action. By partnering with Shopee, we’re making shopping on Pinterest even more useful by connecting inspiration, creator recommendations and products more intuitively – building towards a visual search and shopping experience.”
