Exclusive: Genius Sports’ Josh Linforth on how it’s leveraging Legend’s unique data

Tom Linforth with Jyoti Rambhai

Affiliate Leaders’ editor, Jyoti Rambhai, sits down with Genius Sports’ Josh Linforth to chat about one of the biggest acquisitions that took place this year.

Genius Sports closed its acquisition of sports and gaming media group Legend in May this year for $1.2bn.

The company undertook the takeover to hugely expand its global reach in sports media, igaming and sports betting.

However, the markets did not share the same enthusiasm for the takeover. Genius’ share price dropped 27% in the aftermath, hitting the company to the tune of between $600m-$700m in corporate value.

In an exclusive interview with Affiliate Leaders’ Jyoti Rambhai, chief revenue officer, Josh Linforth talks about how the Legend acquisition has opened doors for Genius Sports.

The pair met up at this year’s Cannes Lions to talk about deal and one of the biggest talking points in marketing – data. Linforth highlights how the firm is leveraging first-party data and intent signals alongside deterministic fan data.
