US Golf company Good Good has lost its CEO and president after coming under fire for an ad which featured violence against a woman.

A controversial ad from YouTube sports channel Good Good has resulted in the chief executive, Matt Kendrick, and president, Joe Flannery, stepping down from their roles.

The ad was created and green-lit by golfing manufacturer Callaway, which has since decided to end its partnership with Good Good. Vice-president of brand and marketing Jeffrey Lefkovits was also sacked earlier this week.

Nahid Giga, investor and board member for Good Good will step up as interim chief executive.

Calaway said in a statement: “Over the past several days, we have listened and reflected deeply on the hurt and disappointment caused by the video we reposted. We heard from individuals who shared personal experiences related to violence against women, and their stories were powerful reminders that this issue touches the lives of far too many people.”

“Unequivocally, violence against women is unacceptable and should never be trivialized, normalized, or used as entertainment.”

The ad, which spoofs recent horror film hit “Obsession”, features Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark shoving professional golfer Alexis Miestowski onto the ground before saying “do not touch my new driver” – which critics say makes light of violence against women.

Far reaching repercussions

Good Good has also stepped away from its sponsorship of a PGA Tour event in November in Austin, Texas. Callaway announced it would donate $1m to organisations that work to prevent violence against women and support survivors of domestic violence.

Before stepping down, chief executive Matt Kendrick took to social media to criticise Callaway for approving the ad before dropping Good Good in a “co-ordinated media blitz”.

Callaway has not yet responded to Kendricks comments. Affiliate Leaders did reach out for comment, but have yet to receive a response.

Beyond the loss of the Callaway partnership, Dick’s Sporting Goods has also taken Good Good products from its shelves, and the Golf Channel has halted its upcoming reality golf series “Big Break” as the prize was entry into the PGA Tour which Good Good was set to sponsor.
