Google’s new AI search report helps publishers and businesses understand where their content is appearing – but without explaining why it was used.

Google has introduced the Search Generative AI performance report within Search Console – which includes dedicated reports for Search and Discover to help website owners understand their sites visibility within generative AI features on Search.

This helps solve a persistent challenge for website owners, who have been kept in the dark about their visibility in AI, and how it is affecting their reach, click-through rates, and traffic.

The new Search Console reports are designed to give you dedicated views of your impressions within GenAI features on Search, like AI Mode, AI Overviews, and AI features in Discover.

Data is included in the overall performance report, where it’s tracked to give site owners an overview of the visibility of their site in Google Search. From now on, there will be a separate view dedicated to visibility through GenAI features.

Reports will show a number of metrics to help site owners;

  • Impressions: How often URLs from sites show up in generative AI features in Search and Discover.
  • Pages: Check which URLs appeared within AI features.
  • Countries: Understand visibility on a regional basis.
  • Devices: Identify devices being used when seeing your website (available for Search results).
  • Dates: Track performance over time with hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly granularity.

The reports will be released on a “subset of websites” so that they can be tested before they are rolled out on a wider scale.

This gives site owners the visibility into which pages are appearing within Google’s generative search experience – something that has been a pain point for publishers and businesses alike – especially given the zero-click nature of search after AI became a tool for discovery.
