Talent watch: TikTok announces major redundancies as it bets on AI content moderation

The latest round up of people moves include changes at TikTok, promotions at Betr and new hires at LinkedIn.

TikTok is reducing its headcount as it looks to hand over content moderating positions to AI.

The trust and safety teams will be cut by around 300 jobs in order to “strengthen our global operating model for trust and safety” including “through the latest technological innovations”, the company told the Independent.

This follows a round of lay offs earlier in the year, which saw TikTok’s marketing chief, Zuber Mohammed let go, along with Sofia Hernandez, global head of business marketing and commercial partnerships and Rema Vasan head of marketing in North Americar.

Betr: Alex Ursa promoted to chief operating officer

Money gaming app Betr has made three big promotions. Alex Ursa is now chief operating officer; Alex Kuwada has become chief marketing officer; and Mike Denevi is now chief content officer.

“Alex Ursa and Mike Denevi are the first two people I hired at Betr – and I am thrilled to promote them to COO and CCO respectively, along with promoting Alex Kuwada to CMO,” said Joey Levy, founder and chief executive of Betr.

Wonderhood: Rowenna Prest joins firm

Wonderhood Studios has hired Rowanna Prest as its first chief audience and strategy officer.

Prest, former chief strategy officer at Joint, will be tasked with helping clients build ideas designed around audiences rather than channels.

LinkedIn: Ben Woods as ad sales director

Ben Woods has been appointed as LinkedIn’s new senior director of ads for the UK and Ireland.

Woods previously held a position as senior director of agency sales at Pinterest.

Initiative: CEO steps down

Initiative, has announced its current chief executive officer, Will Spence, will step down.

The media agency is expected to appoint a new chief executive, but it has not yet been confirmed who that will be. In the meantime, managing director of Initiative UK, Sharon Dhillon will oversee day-to-day leadership.
