Talent watch: OpenAI hires first EMEA ads lead

Clockwise: Gordon, Chadha, Bambury, Thoma

This week’s people moves include OpenAI, Google, Catena media, Target, TikTok, and more.

OpenAI has named Mark Bambury as its first head of advertising for EMEA.

Bambury previously held roles at Roblox as senior director of global brand partnerships, and X (formerly) Twitter as sales director.

ChatGPT only introduced ads for Europe last month, but Bambury’s appointment signals the AI firm is ramping up the roll out. Just this week, it announced the integrations with HubSpot and Shopify as well as sponsored agents.

The introduction of ads has seen mixed success so far, with OpenAI’s ad revenue set to fall short of projections by as much as 90%.

The ads on the platform were reportedly rolled out to 10%, then 50%, then 90% of its audience, with roughly 2,000 advertisers already participating in the pilot.

The ad model is still in its early stages, but brands, adtechs, and agencies are integrating with the service as it develops.
